It is a similar threat that the Catholic Church gives to parents if their baby isn't baptized...then it cannot go to heaven if it dies.
The JWs are in many ways not too different from the churches they despise.
i'm sure that most of us heard that line when we were young.
i never could convince myself of that, other than that it hung a blade over my head that would then be on the chopping block should i err in some way and thus they would be protected from me, but i also knew that i needed to do so anyway.
otherwise i'd be a pariah if i got older and didn't take the step, and i wanted to be good in their eyes.

guess the overlapping generation concept is difficult for most to comprehend.
david spane does his best to explain it again.
the cutoff date for this generation has now moved to 1992 (was once 1935), the year that fred franz died.
runforever - You are 100% correct on this comment:
So one generation is from 1893 to 2015 and counting? 122 years so far?
around the 39:00 minute mark the focus shifts to a single sister who cannot find a mate.
at the 42:30 minute mark she states "i cannot believe it crossed my mind...to look on jw dating sites".
guess a new unwritten rule is added to the many oral traditions of these pharisees.

Oh, but there is great comfort. At the 44:00 minute mark: "Focusing on the ministry work can be of great comfort"

i was baptised on 1st sept 1990, 25years ago today.
it is still a date with deep meaning for me.
i never dedicated my life to serving any man or any organisation, this was my choice - as a grown adult - to serve my god through jesus christ.
Nothing really. It was the pressured decision of a young immature teenager trying to please his single mother...At the time based on the limited knowledge I had (information control) it seemed the right decision.
when much later I found that I had been deceived, I found this more than valid information to treat this "contract" as void.
i've been posting here a lot, but these last few weeks have been very difficult for me.
anyways, lately, i've been thinking about confessing everything i've done to the elders and going back, but deep down, i don't really think it's the truth...so my question is, what convinced you it wasn't the truth and that leaving wasn't a horrible decision that everyone in the truth makes it out to be?
heard of some co's being "let go".
anyone else heard anything like this in the last few days?
Let's evaluate what we know:
District overseers were being done away with
Circuit Overseer maximum age has now been set to 70
During the CO visit, there would only be one weekday meeting
The new service year starts Tuesday September 1st
One task of the CO is to control all records
Circuit Assemblies have been reduced to one day
My assumptions on the above are:
Most DO's (under 70) will accept a CO role and are likely to have first pick
All records are submitted online via JW.ORG nowadays, so less work for the CO
Having only one weekday meeting, I can imagine that a CO could visit two neighboring congregations at the same time.
This would allow Bethel to eliminate half of the Circuit Overseers.
We have been speculating on this for years, looks like it may finally be happening. From a business perspective, this downsizing makes total sense. The only shocking thing is how this is handled. I hope most CO's invested their green handshakes wisely.
are you on the road to everlasting life?.
note to the speaker: help bible students and interested ones to understand why and how to make further spiritual progress..
emphasize the many sources of help available, and warmly encourage them to act without delay.
my jw spies tell me that the kingdom halls are empty compared to how they used to be, since i left 5 years ago.
not saying they're empty because of me though.. is that what you are hearing?.
During the Royal Commission hearings, Angus Stewart made the following observation: “There are currently 817 congregations in Australia with over 68000 active members. Over the past 25 years, the active membership of the church in Australia has grown 29% from approximately 53000 members in 1990. In the same period, Australia’s population growth has been 38%."
So growth of the organization is not keeping up with the population growth.
i remember a little over 15 years ago, one of my first jobs at a grocery store, the manager was happy that they passed a new policy allowing them to grow a beard.
previously they were not allowed.
among the usa, i guess beards were considered not very professional still.
Sir82 you are 100% correct - no beards on the circuit or district platform.
